Corrie Fetman advise if you are in the midst of divorcing or toying with the idea of divorce, to shut down all your social media accounts at once – is she right?
Chicago attorney and styled ‘Love Lawyer’, Corrie Fetman’s recent article in the Huffington post tells readers, in no uncertain terms, that if you are in the midst of divorcing or toying with the idea of divorce, to shut down all your social media accounts at once:
“Yes, you read that correctly. Get online right now and deactivate your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine, or whatever other online platforms you so choose to share the details of your private life on because let me tell you, they will cause nothing but trouble during your litigation proceedings. I would even go so far as to remove all texting and email capabilities from your cell phone that do not relate to business. And yes, I’m serious about that one too.”
Fetman acknowledges that everyone ignores her advice on this since the sheer wrench involved in disconnecting from social networks, texting and technology is just too great for most people.
She goes on to list well known celebrities that have come a cropper during their divorces due to the online trail they left, with even the Director of the CIA allegedly being caught out by his emails.
It just goes to illustrate that whatever you put out there into the digital ether can catch up with you when you least want it to.
